WILSON, GARNET GERALD – It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing, in his 62nd year, of an incredible partner, father and grandpa; Garnet Wilson. Garnet was a devoted partner to his best friend and love of his life, Joanne Yager. Loving son of the late Gordon and Thelma Wilson. A big brother to Janet Wilson and uncle to Robertson. He was a loving and affectionate dad to Sarah (Chris) Gatti and Greg Wilson. Doting grandpa to Alayna, Riley and Carley. He was an amazing bonus dad to Lauren and Kevin Smelser and grandpa to Brandon, Eamon, Helen, Evelyn, Lainey and Landon. A cherished friend and mentor to Nolan and Maddie Yager.
Garnet worked at Dofasco for 35 years and began enjoying his retirement in 2020 by being with his family, playing around with his grandkids, antiquing with Jo and spending hours on the farm with his cows. He had a huge love for hockey and the Maple Leafs. He was a lifelong goalie and proud teammate of the Dunnville Mudcats. He shared his passion for the sport with his kids, Sarah and Greg, by making sure he bought them their first pair of skates where he and the mother of his kids, Sue Wilson would spend hours with them on the ice. Garnet was an avid dirt track racer with his lucky #71 car. He enjoyed racing at Merrittville alongside his son, Greg.
Visitation for Garnet will be held at J.W. Hart Funeral Home in Dunnville on Tuesday May 9, 2023 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Friends and family are invited to join Garnet’s loved ones for a service at J.W. Hart Funeral Home on Wednesday May 10, 2023 at 11:00 am. A private family burial will take place immediately following the service while others are invited to gather at Selkirk Christian Chapel for a luncheon. The family will join once Garnet has been laid to rest. In lieu of flowers, our family would love donations to be made to Dunnville Mudcats in memory of Garnet or a charity close to your hearts. Rest in peace Garnet, we love and miss you but know you are now in Heaven with your loved ones. Online condolences jwhartfuneralhome.com
