WERGER, Joseph. It is with profound sadness and fond memories that the family of Joseph Werger announce his passing on February 5, 2023, in his 85th year, after a brief illness. Joe is survived by his loving wife Rose Marie Werger, of over 62 years. Dearly loved father of Richard Werger and daughter-in-law Brenda Werger. Devoted grandfather to Mckenzie Thornhill (Brent) and Ethan Werger (Courtney). Proud and loving great grandfather to Liam and Blake Thornhill.
Born in Bakonyoszlop, Hungary to the late Martin and Elizabeth Werger. Predeceased by his sisters Mary and Rose Werger. Loving Uncle to Elizabeth Hedley (Duane) and great uncle to Meredith Hedley. He will be missed by his many dear friends. Joe arrived in Canada in 1954 aboard the Arosa Star and went on to live a very fulfilling life. In 1973, Joe opened Werger’s European Delicatessen and proudly served his community for the next 32 years. He thoroughly enjoyed greeting his customers each day and took great pride in his work. During his down time, Joe enjoyed reading, spending time outdoors, going to dances and most importantly spending time with his family. In most recent years he could be seen adoring his great grandsons.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a Celebration of Life on Friday February 10, 2023 at the Royal Canadian Legion, 305 Queen Street Dunnville from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. The family asks that any donations made in Joe’s honor go back to the community by supporting the Dunnville Health Centre Volunteer Association or Dunnville Hospital & Healthcare Foundation ( dhhf.ca ) Online condolences can be shared at jwhartfuneralhome.com.
