Sherry Rose Voakes. At the Hamilton General Hospital on Tuesday June 18, 2024 in her 63rd year.
Sherry Voakes beloved daughter of the late Wayne and Nancy Voakes. Loving sister to Jim Voakes (Wilma) and the late Tim Voakes. Proud aunt of Timothy Glen Voakes. Sherry was very fond of animals, especially her cats that kept her company.
Sherry had just retired after working for many years as an RPN at Heritage Green Retirement Home. She will be missed by her coworkers and many friends. Private cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service honouring both Sherry and her mother Nancy will be held Saturday July 27th at 1:00 pm at JW Hart Funeral Home, Dunnville. Memorial donations to the RCL Br. 142 Poppy Fund or Canadian Cancer Society ( cancer.ca ) would be appreciated. Online condolences jwhartfuneralhome.com

I’m very sorry for your loss. She carried more in her heart than she ever shared. She knew she had a granddaughter who is now 11, a grandson who is now 8, and another grandson who is 3—but she never shared everything, including her son. It’s heartbreaking, but her family is thriving, happy, and hold nothing but love and compassion for her. Facebook brought Sherry and I together after many years. I enjoyed her stories of her cats as I am a cat lover too. I will miss her humor and I hope her and her mom are together having a drink.

She carried deep burdens and personal shame, and in her lifetime, she made the difficult choice not to pursue a relationship with her ONLY child. She left behind three incredible grandchildren: two boys and a girl, who are a living testament to her legacy. While she passed without giving the closure we might have hoped for, we honour her as she was a woman who corresponded when she could, but ultimately remained true to her own boundaries. No sympathy is requested, only acknowledgment that she lived on her own terms, and that her love for her family, though complicated, left lasting marks in ways only time can fully reveal.
