Vanslack: Maurice (Moe) Delano
With great sadness we announce Maurice’s passing away peacefully, with Jean by his side, at Edgewater Gardens in Dunnville. He was almost 87 when he passed on February 8, 2026.
At age 15, Maurice started out as a commercial fisherman where he worked for 11 years out of Port Maitland. Around the age of 26, Moe moved to Scarborough where he was responsible for operating multimillion dollar machines for 25 years at Atlantic Packaging Products Limited. After moving back to Dunnville, he became a volunteer firefighter based out of Lowbanks where he was proud to serve for a number of years which included attending the Hagersville tire fire in February 1990. His move back to his hometown also included performing other miscellaneous jobs until his retirement. He was always an extremely hard worker – with his hands, never in his pockets.
He leaves behind his son’s Jason (Lausanne) and Bronson (Jennifer) and his grandchildren Talon and Larissa Vanslack along with his special girl Jean Garbas, his sisters Patricia Crumb, Jeannie Coles, and brother Doug (Brenda) McIntee, along with many nieces and nephews. Moe was pre-deceased by his parents, Clara and Jack Elijah Vanslack, sisters Betty and Janet and brothers Alfred, Arville, David and Bill.
A special thank you to all the staff at Edgewater for the great care of Maurice and his family. If you choose to honour Moe, please make a donation to the Salvation Army food bank as he loved helping people.
A special thanks to Linda, Dave and Connie for their support and loving hearts along with JW Hart Funeral Home for their expertise and care for Maurice and his family. Very much appreciated.
As per Moe’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family interment will take place on Saturday March 28, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Royal Canadian Legion, Br 142, 305 Queen St. Dunnville from noon to 2 p.m. Online condolences at: www.jwhartfuneralhome.com

You would know me as Mary Tome. I lived on Hunt Street just down from Dalia. She told me of the loss of your long time partner. I am so sorry, and I pray you will have the strength needed to carry on. I know we haven’t seen each other since our school days, but it would be nice to get together. When you think the time is right for you, it would be so nice to do that. Just let Dalia know if you would like to.
Sincerely, Mary.
Jean and family, please accept my condolences at this time. Moe was such a wonderful man, always smiling and making friends with everyone who passed through his life. And the impact he had on others was just amazing as his smile. I will always remember him as the ” Candy Man”, because he always had candy and willing to give it to you.
Thinking of you all. Moe may be gone, but he will never be forgotten.
