Arlene Bernice Van Soelen
After a long journey and many miracles, Arlene Bernice Van Soelen (nee Mans) passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, and into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father at the age of 56 on June 12, 2025.
Dearly loved by her husband and best friend of 34 years, Michael Van Soelen. Cherished mother of Jason and Alyssa Van Soelen, Rachel Van Soelen, Kimberly and Sean Jans, and Erica and Christian VanManen. Loving Oma to her precious grandchildren, Landon, Amber, Dean, and Mattias. Treasured daughter and daughter in law of Gary and Helen Mans and (Gus+) and Jane Van Soelen. Dear sister and sister in law to Larry and Karen Mans, Elsje (Richard+) and Rick DeBoer, Carl and Hilda Van Soelen, Leonard and Lynn Snippe, Sandy Van Soelen, and Dave and Tammy Van Soelen. Arlene is also loved by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
To know Arlene was to love her. She was a bright, shining light in this world who captivated many hearts. This is true in the way her joy, smile, and laughter infected those around her, the lives she impacted through her service as registered nurse for 35 years, and her testament of God’s goodness and faithfulness in her life. Many wondered where this joy came from after hearing her story, and the hardships she endured amidst a life long battle with cancer. Her answer would be in reference to her favourite passage, Psalm 121, “My help comes from the Lord..” In all circumstances she shone Christ’s light and used her struggle to witness to the world of His blessings and mercies new each morning, and His infinite power to strengthen and sustain those who seek Him in prayer and thanksgiving. Arlene was so loved and will be so missed, but what a comfort to know she is now with her Saviour, made new in His glory, saying: “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
Visitors will be received at Wellandport United Reformed Church, 74082 Wellandport Road Monday, June 16 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 6:00 – 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at Wellandport United Reformed Church on Tuesday at 11:00 am with the interment prior to the service at Riverside Cemetery, Wellandport at 9:30am for those who wish to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Heritage Christian School. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to JW Hart Funeral Home. Online condolences at jwhartfuneralhome.com

Sending Mike & the family our deepest condolences…”Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted” Matthew 5:4…-Jordan & Stephanie Wagter and Family
Mike. I am so very sorry to hear the news about Arlene. I met her a couple times over the years and she was always so lovely but I could always sense her presence and what she meant to you and your family through your variety of social media posts. I always got a sense of family, bonding and togetherness seeing your posts. Such a tight knit bond you all have. I hope that bond will help you through these terrible times you are going to be facing. My sincerest condolences to you my friend and your family. God bless you all. Take care Mike
As well as being a friend to Arlene, I also worked with her as a fellow registered nurse at Haldimand War Memorial Hospital in Dunnville. When she returned to work after some time off for treatment, I orientated her back to the inpatient unit. On our second shift together, one of our patients ended up having a code blue; the patient had stopped breathing and no heart beat. Arlene wasted no time and started chest compressions on this patient. I asked if she was good or if I needed to take over, and she said “nope I got this Teresa! I’m good!” The patient ended up living because of her quick actions.
Arlene, we already miss you so much. You were a shining light and an incredible example to my husband and I of what a true walk with Christ looks like.
My sincerest condolences to Arlenes family. She was such a caring dedicated person.A great comfort when I was in the hospital.May you rest in peace.

It was an honour to have known and worked with Arlene. Deepest condolences.
I had the privilege of working with Arlene for many years in the ER. She was one of the most compassionate empathetic nurses I have ever known. She never complained and had the most amazing smile that would light up a room. Sending sympathy to her family and friends.

So sorry for loss!
So many memories of sleepovers, you all doing new years together and all of us kids snoozing upstairs at your place. Funniest one is when Aunt Arlene and Uncle Brian did a shadow performance of “I feel like a woman” by Shaina Twain.
Or the time all the mom (Arlene, Michelle, Trish and Patty) all dyed their hair black, minister gave all of you ladies so many looks next Sunday service!!
I will always remember how she lit up when she greeted you and walked over for a hug, if I was ever at Dunnville ER I’d ask if she was working.
She will be missed. Love of you guys!!

My sincere condolences to Arlene’s family. I worked with Arlene many years ago in community nursing. She always had a smile and was one of the kindest, most well liked people I have ever known. And she was a GREAT NURSE! I feel blessed to have known her. She was very much loved. May God comfort you all at this time.
A memory of Arlene. She was such a bubble of cheer! She had a positive attitude towards all of life. I shared her joy thru our league golfing years together. One funny memory I have is when we were in church on the balcony back in the day and we were all singing away and Arlene was belting it out behind us like she does, however she was on the wrong verse and I held up 3 fingers behind me to let her know which verse. It’s had us roaring about it many times!
Our condolences to you Mike and family. We are comforted that she can be praising God in Heaven now.
Love Alice and Martin
