SHIRTON, Keith Edward. Our family is saddened to announce the peaceful passing of our dear Dad on Friday September 30, 2022 at Edgewater Gardens, Dunnville. We take great comfort knowing that he has been reunited with his sweetheart , our dear mother Janet (March 2021).
Keith Shirton beloved husband of Janet. Loving and supportive father to Sandra and Keith Egger, Doug and Kathy, Diana and Rick Langeraap, and Dave and Wanda. Proud Grandfather to Sarah and Jay, Kate and Scott, Lyndsey and James, Lacey and Jeremy, Clayton and Sarah, Eric and Megan, Ian and Amberlee, Tyler and Tara, Greg and Katie, Dale and McKenzie and 21 great grandchildren. Dearest brother to Lyle and Barb, Joan and Davin Fulsom, Jane and Ken Case, Wayne and Debbie, Sheila and Tom Battle, Joyce Kirkpatrick. Brother-in-law to Neil Duncan, Lois and Ken Ricker, Claire and Dave Covey and Lynn and Paul Bruzas. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Clifford and Lillian, inlaws Victor and Effie Duncan and by his nephew Jim Kirkpatrick.
Our Dad was a very hardworking and successful man. Keith was a dairy farmer and operated a water hauling business, a volunteer firefighter at Canboro #4 and sat on the board of directors at Cayuga Mutual Insurance for 20 years. He loved to play hockey and equally enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s hockey games. He could always be counted on to help a friend or neighbour in need. We would like to thank Edgewater Gardens for providing our Dad with such wonderful care. The family would appreciate memorial donations to Edgewaters Gardens (Expansion Project) .
Friends may call at JW Hart Funeral Home, Dunnville on Wednesday from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Thursday October 6, 2022 at 1:00 pm. followed by interment at Melick Cemetery. Online condolences and photos at jwhartfuneralhome.com
We are so sorry to hear about “Grandpa Shirton”. He was a great man, full of tricks and fun jokes to play on the grandkids. Many memories of he and Grandma Shirton with Grandma & Grandpa Rose going to Squires for dinner while our parents were away with our cousin. Memories of hanging out at the farm and those short buzz cuts that I still call Grandpa Shirton hair cuts.
He once told me while we were eating soup, “Did you ever notice that every time you bend your elbow your mouth comes open?!” It was a challenge not to at lunch time!
Rest in peace Grandpa Shirton, you’ll be missed by many.

My grandma (Aunt Ferne) would bring us to the farm in the summer and your dad was always so welcoming, showing us around the dairy, meeting all the animals (Chester the goat was such a favourite), collecting eggs in the chicken coupe, riding the tractors and more. As a kid from the city, my brother and I enjoyed every moment, even touching the electric fence when we were told not too lol!! My sincerest condolences to your families loss. Hold those memories of your dad, grandfather, brother close in your heart, he was a special man in so many ways 🙂

Just a brief note to express my deepest sympathy to all of you who are Keith’s family. Over my time at Bethany Church, I had the privilege of enjoying visits with Keith, and Janet, both at their home and also during their time at Edgewater Gardens. Keith was always interesting to talk to and had many stories to share about his family, his life and business endeavors. I appreciated his forthrightness and the sense of humour and playfulness that he brought to his story telling. I will keep all of you in my prayers.

We had hoped to be with you today as you celebrate Keith’s life. Unfortunately schedules of family coming from the west to celebrate Thanksgiving have made this impossible.
Keith and Janet were a very special couple and we always enjoyed our times together. Times at the farm or at the St Clair river were always special as we discussed family both past and present. As we remember and are so thankful for both Keith and Janet being a small part of our lives we are aware of the gratitude and pride that each of you must have for such wonderful parents.
May those memories and their steadfast love be with you now and in all the days ahead as you pass their legacy to future generations.
