Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Scholfield
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary “Betty” Elizabeth Scholfield, who peacefully left us at the age of 100. Born on June 28, 1924, Betty’s life was a tapestry of love, compassion, and enduring devotion to her family. She leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished forever.
Betty was predeceased by her devoted husband, Frank Scholfield, with whom she shared 52 years of marriage before his passing in 2001. She was a loving and dedicated mother to her two children: John (predeceased in 2009) and Mary Elizabeth Hamilton (Dave). She was the loving grandmother of Ryan (Kelsi) and Jeff, and proud great-grandmother to twins Hayden and Hunter. Betty was predeceased by her parents, Grace (1984) and Otto (1940), as well as her siblings: Gordon (1964), Kenneth (1980), Maurice (1985), Marjorie (1998), and Dorothy (2013).
Betty worked for 20 years as an Administrative Assistant at Wabasso Textiles, where she was known for her dedication and professionalism. A gifted pianist, Betty’s musical talents brought joy to many. She was a proud and active member of the Dunnville Presbyterian Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher and choir member. She was also an active and dedicated member of the Dunnville Sweet Adelines for many years. Her time with the Sweet Adelines, which included many joyful years of travel and singing, held a special place in her heart. In addition to her professional and musical accomplishments, Betty shared a deep bond with her late husband, with whom she worked tirelessly to coordinate the annual No. 6 S.F.T.S. Air Force Reunions in Dunnville for 55 years. These reunions were an important part of her life. During these years, she and Frank traveled to the UK five times, creating lasting memories of their love for Great Britain.
In her 80s, Betty’s adventurous spirit led her to explore Australia on two separate trips, proving that her curiosity for travel never waned. Later in life, Betty found joy in quieter pursuits: playing solitaire, reading, watching Jeopardy!, and doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Her curiosity never ceased—always eager to stay informed, she often read newspapers from around the world on her computer, with a special interest in geography.
Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be deeply missed. Her kind spirit, generosity, and unwavering love for her family will be remembered and cherished forever.

Please accept my sincere condolences at the passing of a lovely lady. I have fond memories of Betty singing in Sweet Adeline’s with my late Mum and Aunt. The heavens now have an extra singer.

To Mary and John, I will always remember having your Mom as a Sunday school teacher. She was so much fun, caring, and a roll model for me. What a long life she had, so many memories you will always have. I know I have a few and they bring a smile to my face. Thinking of you all at this sad time.
Our condolences to the family. I worked with Betty at Dominion Fabrics (Wabasso) 1969-73. I was in accounts receivable… she tried to teach me switchboard; she was so good at it, but I certainly did not have the confidence to be relief operator! She taught me well, though.
