The following is the official obituary from the Roy Family,
We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden death of Marc Thomas Roy on July 26, 2023 in his 39th year of life.
Marc Roy proud and loving father to Eva Roy. Beloved husband to Phaedra Roy. Loving son of Maurice and Mona Roy. Predeceased by his brother Marcel, and dearly loved by his sister Michelle Roy and brother-in-law Grant Carter and by his nieces and nephews Owen and Blake Carter, Crystal and Amber Roy. Sadly missed and fondly remembered by many.
Marc Roy was born in Toronto and at a very young age Marc found a passion and love for music. This gift to play any stringed instrument was truly a remarkable sight to see. As he grew older, his talented gift only became more extraordinary. Marc has received many prestigious awards for his many accomplishments throughout his musical journey. Although music was his passion, Marc’s greatest accomplishment is his daughter Evangeline Roy. She was the sparkle in his eyes and what made his heart skip a beat! This unconditional love between father and daughter will live on forever. Marc will be fondly remembered as being a kind, humble, talented man that instantly made connections with everyone he met and had a special bond with everyone in his Bluegrass Family.
Life without you will not be the same Marky … we will hold on to and cherish all the memories for our days, months and years ahead. Rest In Peace Marky and play us a tune from Heaven.

Although we never got to meet you Marc, we’ve had the pleasure to hear all about you and your extraordinary life before you passed and continue to hear all about you from your wonderful sister, Michelle. Our deepest condolences to the Roy family & friends for the sudden and tragic loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time. Rest Easy Marc!
My deepest condolences to you all in this tough time!
Marky was not only my God brother but he was my first friend, my first love, and my first kiss. We spent everyday together and when he moved away from Toronto, it was my first heartbreak. My father and Maurice, Marcel, and Marky would all play Bluegrass together on a daily and those memeories I will cherish for a lifetime. I have never ending stories of the love and joy we all shared together. I feel so lucky to call them my God family ❤️
The one thing I will always love about Facebook was it was able to bring us back together. I was blessed to be able to see him play again at The Silver Dollar. He would come over to my dads and they would play for hours. Visiting with Mona, Maurice, and Michelle after a decade is a time I still reminisce about often. The Roys will always hold one of the most important places in my heart. I love them all more than I could ever say! I am sending so much love their way to lift them up through this time.
The messages we shared together are what will keep me strong without you Marky.
I love you Marky, Always and Forever! You and Marcel are together now! Until we meet again ❤️❤️❤️
Mes plus sincères condoléances à toi Mona, Maurice et Michelle ainsi que toute la famille. Je pense à vous très fort. 🙏🙏🙏
My Sincere Condolences, It is difficult to say goodbye…. It all started by saying Hello and that led to friendship and sharing!! I have been graced by sharing time with Marc and his family members….and to meet his daughter …Marc’s Pride and Joy! My thoughts are with the Roy Family… God Bless Marc RIP My Friend.
What a privilege to have known Marc through music. I like how he could make the band smile when he’d say. Watch this and play a unique note or joke and say I can do this with one finger. And he did. Certainly known for his music yet, every get together practice or performance included and update of his much loved family.

Our heartfelt Condolences to Marcs family, we loved the guy so much. I met Marc many years ago at various bluegrass festivals and it surprised us so much when I asked him if he would like to join the SweetGrass family and he did for many years wowing the crowd and even his bandmates. Will miss hanging out at our practices and will always remember our last one on July 23rd on the BearPaw stage, counting us in for our last song…Jimbob
Mt deepest Condelences to Pheadra, Eva ,and families I had the pleasure to hear and see his Talent at South Side pizza Truly a big loss to the music industry RIP Marc Roy 😢 🙏
Dear family and friends of Marc Roy. Our prayers and thoughts are with you. Marc was a very good friend to our son Nathan and they spent happy times together. He encouraged our son on his dobro even though he had struggles of his own. Losing a friend always hurts but thank God for memories that we can look back on and remember the good times. Our thoughts and prayers will be with Eva as she grows. May God bless at this difficult time.

My condolences go out to the Roy family who have lost so much. I spent most of my adult life in Thunder Bay and I heard so much about this extraordinary fellow from the Oshawa bluegrass club from family that attended the sessions. When I moved back to the area after retirement I was able to actually see and listen to Marc. I recall the first time I saw him he was chatting with jake outside the club, I thought to myself, that must be Marc. I never dreamed that eventually I would actually be in a band that he was in. Over the past few years playing together I realized he was so much more than an extremely talented man. He was an amazing father, husband, and friend. Rest in peace my friend.
All things beautiful last forever, keep within sweet memory.
May your happy memories help to ease your sorrow.
My deepest condolences to the Roy family.
Marc will be missed but never forgotten..
Good bless, love Pamela Trecartin
Dearest Marky I remember the day you were born. You were so small but you grew and grew more. You had a special relationship with Amanda. It was so sweet Amanda was very depressed when you moved away.
My family had a relationship with the whole Roy family. You were all special to me. You were there when I needed help. Now it’s my turn to be there for the Roy family. Marky I will miss you forever. You were a awesome man and musician. Your legacy is Eva and your music will live on. Rest in peace my dear friend 🙏 💔.
So sorry to of Marc’s passing . Marc and my best friend growing up . They did everything together, first kiss and first love. I remember the day Marc was born he was premature and so small. He grew stronger everyday and grew into a wonderful young man. If you knew Marc you loved him. He was my daughters God brother, the whole Roy family was amazing. Mona and I used to cook on weekends and split the food between our 2 families. Just so many memories I can’t put them all into words. I send my condolences to the whole Roy family. My dear friend Marky rest in peace 🙏 you will be missed . I am hear for any of the Roy’s who need to talk.
Had lots of fun hanging out with Marc at Silver Dollar when he played with crazy strings. I’ll see ya when I go up there bud.
Condolences to his loved ones.
