It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Gregory Merle Robert Minor on August 6 , 2026 in his 61st year.

Greg was born in Dunnville on October 13 1965 to Charles (Chuck) and Nancy Minor (both deceased) and was married to the love of his life Lisa (Bishop), who passed suddenly on July 10, 2023.  Greg is survived and will be missed by his children Katie and Matt (Jess), and grandchildren Peyton, Jack and Rylin and his brother Chris (Debbie) and their boys (Jake and Josh).

Greg will also be sorely missed by his brother and sister-in-laws Rick and AlinaBishop, Susan Nolan, Judy and Larry King, Steve and Theresa Bishop, Lori Siddall, Dan and Cathie Bishop and Robert (Sandra) Bishop and their families. It is hard to believe that we are saying goodbye to Greg at only 60 years of age.

Greg started work at a young age on the commercial fishing boats of Lake Erie with Siddall Fisheries in Port Maitland. It was hard, demanding work and a way of life that followed the seasons of the lake. He fished for perch, pickerel, and whitefish, and when late winter and early spring arrived, it was time for smelt. Mornings were early, days could be long, cold, and windy, with heavy nets and gear to haul and a crew that depended on one another. It was work that took strength, patience, and determination.

Greg reportedly met Lisa at one of Joe Bishop’s corn roasts, and that was the start of a long and loving relationship that saw them married in February 1990. They soon started a family, with Katie and Matt born by fall 1993.  They started out in the house on Brant Street, but wanted more yard and outdoor space, so bought and moved to the current home at 1414 Hwy 3.

Greg loved the fishing life, but when he and Lisa were expecting Matt, he made the decision to find work closer to home. It was a decision that reflected what mattered most to him—being there for his growing family.

That decision led him to Vic Powell Welding, where he would spend the next 32 years of his working life, becoming a skilled and dedicated welder who took great pride in his work. At Powell’s, he worked alongside Vic himself, who had a lifelong hobby of collecting and displaying brass artifacts, something that added a unique character and personality to the shop. Greg’s years at Vic Powell became another important chapter in a long and hardworking career.

Greg had a wonderful sense of humour, a playful streak, and an incredible ability to turn an ordinary moment into a story that would be told for years. He brought laughter into every family gathering and was deeply loved by all who knew him.

He was the kind of man who would put on a mask, sneak outside, and prowl beneath the windows just to scare the kids waiting inside. And somehow, he probably enjoyed the anticipation of the screaming just as much as the kids enjoyed retelling the story afterward. But behind that playful side was a man with an enormous heart – a gentle giant who loved deeply and cared fiercely about the people in his life.

Greg loved hunting and fishing, and proudly displayed his turkey tails in the garage along with the rest of his hunting and fishing gear. He loved to take the kids fishing in the river behind the shipyard, and see the grins and laughter when they caught a big one. His quads were always ready to go, because he couldn’t wait to take the kids for a ride. As they got older, he looked forward to teaching them how to drive them themselves. For Greg, these weren’t just rides—they were opportunities to make memories with the people he loved.

To his grandchildren, he was Papa, and being Papa was one of the roles he treasured most. They will remember his stories, his teasing, his laughter, his big hugs, and probably a few of the times he scared the living daylights out of them.

Three years ago, Greg lost his beloved wife, Lisa. They had shared a life, a home, a family, and countless memories together. Her passing left a hole in his heart that never truly went away, and he missed her every day. Perhaps that is why, while we are heartbroken to lose him, there is also a small comfort in knowing that he is no longer without her. We can picture them together again—Lisa probably giving him that familiar look she used to give “Biff” when he was up to something, and he giving her that innocent “what” look in return.

Greg leaves behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, and memories, and a family who will miss his presence more than words can say. There will be an empty chair at the Bishop family gatherings, but there will be stories to be told and laughter because “Papa would have loved that.” There will be moments when we hear a familiar joke, see a quad, or remember one of his antics, and for a moment it will feel like he is right there with us. And maybe that is the greatest part of all.

He will continue to live on in the stories we tell, the laughter he gave us, and the love he poured into his family.

Rest easy, Papa. Go find Mom.

There will be a private family service at JW Hart Funeral Home , 113 Lock St E., Dunnville on Wednesday August 12, followed by a public Celebration of Life at the Lowbanks Community Centre, 2633 Northshore Drive, Lowbanks from 2-4 pm. All are welcome to come to visit friends and family and celebrate Greg’s days with us. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Dunnville Hospital and HealthcareFoundation.
