Our hearts are collectively broken at the sudden passing of Daniel Robert Minor on March 12, 2021. Husband to his beloved wife and best friend, Haley, and an incredibly loving Daddy to his son, Jack. Daniel was the proud son of Tom and Michelle Minor, loving brother to Lynsey and Zack Schmidt and adoring Uncle to Harper and Ainsley. Daniel will be forever missed by his Grandparents Dan and Jeanette Minor and many cherished uncles, aunts and cousins. He was a devoted son in law to Bob, Sheila and Cindy. Reunited with his Aunt Judy, cousin Barry, and grandparents Barry and Lenore Dear.
Daniel spent much of his life on the water aboard the Lynsey Lenore, proudly learning the family trade. When he wasn’t on the boat, Dan could be found at the arena, laced up and donning the number 21 or as a coach with his Mudcats gear. Dan was passionate about all aspects of life, but his passion for hockey was profound. He grew up achieving high-level athletic endeavours on the ice and then translated his love for playing to a role behind the bench as a Coach. Dan (and his soft hands) left an impact on his coaches, teammates, players, and opponents.
To know him was to love him. From his charismatic smile to kitchen dance moves, Dan offered no shortage of light to those around him. To put it simply, Dan was “that guy”; someone who shone brightest when helping others and wouldn’t hesitate to do anything, for anyone, at any time. Let us remember Dan for his contagious smile, generous character, and loving heart.
May we reflect on his zest for life and endearing charm and carry his spirit into the love and kindness we choose to show others each day. Whether you’re on the ice, in the stands, on the bench, or in the outfield, let’s give Dan one more “bbbaaabbbyyyy” for the road.

I’ll always remember Danny as the young boy running around the old arena at the terrier games when he was around 10 or so. He always seemed to be able to find me watching the game in the stands.
“Hey rosey…. guess how many points I got last game?”
It was always an absurd number like 8 or 10 or 12. I’d always get a quick run down on his best snipes too. Not because he was bragging, he was just so excited that he had been practicing a move and it worked 3 times in the same game.
Then I remember seeing him play in a game for the first time. He was one of those super special players that would controlled the pace of the entire game. Out of all the local sports I’ve watched or played, there are only a handful of guys locally that had that ability to do all that , and Danny did it with an enormous smile on his face.

The news of DANs passing shook myself and my family to the core. I had the privilege of coaching Dan in his younger years in Dunnville. He was a larger than life personality even at a very young age, his teammates always looked up to him and marveled at his scoring ability. When he enter a room everyone knew he was their, if he didn’t know you he just introduced himself, hi Iam Dan Minor .As coaches when you tried to point out something in his game Dan would always say I scored didn’t I, he made scoring look easy. Hockey aside Dan had a personality that drew people to him, he was always smiling and joking with people, as Dan grew older and I didn’t see him as often, it made no difference, in a room of200 people he would find his way to say hello, That’s the Dan Minor I will always remember.

Zac and I were shocked and saddened to here the news of Dan’s passing. His happy-go-lucky nature was infectious, and I can’t recall ever encountering him at the arena or on road trips without coming away with a grin and a chuckle. Although we may not have seen him much since the Welland Tiger hockey days, we always got a kick out of seeing a newspaper article about his exploits, and later, postings on social media reflecting his love of family. To this day, we marvel at how he was able to pick up a lacrosse stick in his early teens and display stick skills equal to or better than a lot of kids who had played from age 5. He was truly one of a kind. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Tom, Michelle, Lynsey, Haley, and Jack.
