KNUDSEN, Monica Elisabeth
In beloved memory of Monica Knudsen was born March 2, 1953 in Gothenburg Sweden and died peacefully surrounded by family on October 16, 2025 in the Greater Niagara General Hospital in Niagara Falls Ontario.
Monica was born in Sweden and moved to Canada as a teenager with her father Hans and brother Hans-Erik where they settled in Hamilton Ontario. Hans married Doris and 3 more younger brothers soon followed, Vincent, Michael, and Soren. Monica loved her mother Erna, who remained in Sweden, but would visit Canada. Family was very important to Monica and she loved all of her nieces, nephews, and cousins both in Canada and Sweden.
Monica attended Westdale Secondary School before she started her career at Dofasco where she worked for over 30 years, retiring in 2015. Monica loved her career in the steel industry and it was not long before she resumed working for Storm Roll and Coil repair alongside her son Mark. Monica always said that she would “work” for her entire life because she wanted to, not because she had to.
Monica’s greatest love by far were her two sons David and Mark and her 3 granddaughters Haley, Charlotte, and Evee-Marie. She would never miss an opportunity to brag to anyone that would listen about the accomplishments of each of them. Whether on the telephone or Facebook or seated at her favourite spot in Bob’s Place you were sure to hear a story about David or Mark or the girls. Whether you had time to stop and listen mattered not to Monica. She was going to tell you anyways.
Monica was nothing if not organized and prepared. Her favourite time of year was Christmas and she would often speak about how she had picked up this present or that present for someone during the year. It would be wrapped and stashed away somewhere in her house, often for months and months, waiting for the big day to arrive. The menu for her Boxing Day dinner was often set years in advance as she looked forward to hosting her son’s and their young families for Christmas presents and food.
Monica is survived by her two sons David Brewster (Stacey Abercrombie) and Mark Brewster, her three granddaughters Haley Brewster, Charlotte Brewster, and Evee-Marie Brewster, her four brothers Hans-Erik, Vincent, Michael, and Soren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins that she loved very much.
Monica will be remembered for her determination, or stubbornness, and her unwavering love of her family.
Memorial visitation will be held at JW Hart Funeral Home, 113 Lock St. East Dunnville on Saturday November 1st from 1:00pm to 4:00pm followed by a social gathering from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the Dunnville Legion for friends and family to come together and share stories and memories over some light food and drink.

My sincere condolences to Monika’s family and friends. I’veknown Monika since I started working at Dofasco in 1979…we butted heads more than once lol but grew to be friends over the years. Under that gruff exterior beat a kind and caring heart and she loved her family. I always enjoyed the dinners and conversations we had at Bobs Place. I moved away and it was hard for us to getogether but we kept in touch and it was always lovely to hear how her family were there for her supporting her with her health issues. She will be missed and Im glad I got the privilege to learn to know her and her friendship was special. Rest in the circle of God’s arms my dear you are home…hugs and prayers…your friend Marion
