Christopher Steven Keesmaat
August 31, 1968- May 3, 2022
With heavy hearts, the family of Chris announce his sudden passing at the age of 53. Son of Ann Keesmaat and the late John Keesmaat. Brother of Lucas, Rebecca (Cameron) and Sarah (Kyle). He leaves behind his two children, Jaymieson (Patrick) and Clinton. Uncle to Brittany, Johnny, Taylor, Asher and Barrett. Chris will be remembered by his long-time friend, Tara, uncles, aunts, cousins and countless friends.
Chris had a sense of humour like no other and lifted the spirits of anyone he spoke to. He was an encourager of good deeds and always called a spade, a spade. Chris was a Jack-of-all-Trades in his own right; proudly having spent most of his working years as an ironworker (Journeyman Ironworker Local 721-Toronto and Local 45-Jersey City, NJ) and also enjoyed cooking, fishing, hunting, canning, music, beekeeping and raising the odd chicken. His family takes great comfort in knowing that his father, grandparents; Arie and Frances Keesmaat, Elizabeth Silversmith and Harry Johnson, cousins; Daykah, George and Jeff have all welcomed him home. Heaven is so blessed to have you, Christopher, you were one of a kind.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, 161 Queen Street, Dunnville on Sunday September 4th from 2:00 to 5:00pm. One time we were driving out to the golden leaf shop, just after dawn – and Chris yelled “look at the deer!” I thought, oh shit, we’re gonna hit a deer, and got freaked out but didn’t see anything. So I yelled “where the f*** is it!?” Chris laughed, pointed out the window, “it’s right there, 200 yards off, on the edge of the field!”
We laughed so hard. Was real sad to hear he passed. But now he’s beyond the edge of the field, and into a whole new pasture. Bless you, brother.

To his family and friends, and everyone who loved Chris, my thoughts and sincere condolences are with you. Such a difficult thing with a sudden passing such as this – I wish you healing and fond memories. My hope is that Chris is resting easy and without any pain. Chris had a way about him that was so kind and vulnerable and welcoming, and he could inevitably make me laugh…even when his jokes were less than appropriate!!
I will remember him fondly for a long time. I’m so happy that our paths crossed.
We always appreciated Chris’ sense of humour and gentle way. Our sincere condolences to the family.
I had the pleasure to get to know Chris quite well over the last year. Every time I left his home it was with a smile on my face and a sore stomach from laughing.
Chris had a kindness to him and a personality that won’t soon be forgotten.
