Death
Funeral
JOHNSTON, Ronald Gordon “Ron”. February 22, 1944 – September 20, 2021. Passed away peacefully at St. Catharines General Hospital surrounded by family in his 78th year.Beloved husband to his bride, Myrna of 53 years. Loving father to Karen (aka Charles) and Kris (aka Ralph) and son-in-law Jeff (aka Norfolk). Awesome grandpa to Alayna (Shorthorn), Lauren (Buckwheat), Logan (Partner) and Grayden (Big Head). Will also be missed by his sister-in-law and brother-in law, nieces and nephews. Ron was born and raised in Meaford, Ontario where he met the love of his life in 1962.
He began his banking career at the age of 18 and quickly rose through the ranks to become a branch manager at various BMO locations throughout Southern Ontario. Ron and his young family settled in Dunnville where he worked at the bank until December 1977. His career changed paths when he became owner of Industrial Track & Turbo where he remained until he retired. Bored with retirement, he started up his Chip Truck empire in the late 1990’s. He was well known throughout Dunnville and surrounding areas as well as the Fulsom Auction circuit as the “Chip Truck Guy”.
Ron was the type of man who knew everyone and everyone knew him. He would often be seen walking or riding his bicycle around town and stopping to “shoot the breeze” with anyone he encountered. Ron was very well known for his sweet tooth with butter tarts being a particular favourite. A butter tart and a Coke was the last thing he enjoyed before he left this earth – a very fitting meal for Ron. He will be remembered by his family through fond memories and much laughter.
“SEE YA AT CHRISTMAS”
Visitation will be held at J.W. Hart Funeral Home in Dunnville on Wednesday September 29, 2021 from 12:00pm – 2:00pm with service immediately following. All are welcome, mask and social distancing required (Covid19 protocols in place result in limited seating).
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Walker Family Cancer Center in St. Catharines or the Dunnville Hospital Foundation would be much appreciated by the family. Online condolences, obituary and photos at jwhartfuneralhome.com

I am sorry to hear of Ron’s passing….He was my boss at Bank of Montreal Dunnville for many years. He was quite a character and we had many a good time with him. I used to see him walking and stop and we would exchange insults to one another. He always had one up on me. He will be missed. My condolences to the family
Mom, Karen, Kris and Jeff.
Please accept my deepest condolences on the loss of Ron.
A very devoted husband, a reliable and extremely loving father and the only Father-in-law for 20 years that I have ever known.
I just wanted to let you all know that I always looked up to Ron, many times in awe of his very deep thinking, and extreme intelligence that I would never thought of challenging.
He always seemed to be a very private man and I never did learn how to read him, but the one thing I do know for sure was his deep devotion to every single one of you.
His generosity was always very apparent, and his sense of humor pretty much legendary…, which is another area I had a hard time on picking up on.
He certainly was the joy in a joyful Christmas and I was always in awe of how slowly he could open his packages.
One thing I always said is he will never die of a heart attack, as I don’t believe I ever seen him fazed.
I know I have drastically missed him for the past 8 years opening his presents.
Ron was always very accepting of me even in my very foolish times and I will always owe him a debt of gratitude for making me feel a “part” of.
I’m sure he is up there catering to Grandma and nodding his head at Wilbur and will be there waiting with open arms when you all meet him in the promised land.
May God Bless each and everyone of you throughout the days, weeks and years that lie ahead and just know that he is comfortable now.
Thinking of you all, Bob.
😘😘😘😘
We wish to express our deepest sympathies to Ron’s family and friends. He was a wonderful guy…….always had a smile on his face.
