Holland, Colin Sidney ~ November 21, 1937 – January 5, 2025.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Colin in his 88th year at St. Joseph’s Healthcare in Hamilton on January 5, 2025.
Colin will be greatly missed by daughters Susan (Jarold) Holland-Hibbert and Carol Holland and grandsons Oliver and Jonathan. He will also be missed by brothers David, Norman (Pam), and Raymond (Kristine), sister-in-law Frances Turnidge (nee Kearsey), stepsons Leonard Townsend, John (Louise) Townsend, granddaughters Alyssah and Lindsay, and numerous nieces and nephews in England. Colin was predeceased by his second wife of 28 years Linda May (nee Hubbell), his first wife of 29 years Jean Valerie (nee Kearsey), and parents Sidney and Olive (nee Pye) Holland.
Born in Chingford, England, he met Jean in 1964, married in 1965, had 2 daughters and emigrated to Canada in 1970. After the passing of Jean, Colin was able to find love a second time, marrying Linda in 1996. He worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for his entire career, raising a family primarily in Hamilton, Ontario. He loved tinkering with engines, riding motorbikes, and being outdoors, whether that was camping in Ontario Provincial Parks or simply sitting outside and watching the world go by, chatting with friends and others. Colin’s family would like to express their thanks and appreciation for the care provided by the staff of St. Joseph’s Healthcare (Charleton Campus) in his final days.
As per Colin’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private committal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated. Online condolences jwhartfuneralhome.com
So sorry for the loss of your Dad, Carol and Susan, and family. We’ve met him once at the Photo Union, where Carol discovered her love for photography. MEMORIES
Colin was the oldest of us four brothers. He got us all into motorbikes. He once brought home an old Rudge motorcycle which he had to trade for some of his wages where he worked. Brothers David and Norman were next with motorcycles. Then our Father said “ Why didn’t he have one?”. I was too young just watched until our father passed away and I inherited his Greeves motorcycle where Colin used to work.
Colin then took over as family head. He used to have his own chair. Although a bit touchy he would always help with the maintenance of our motorcycles.
My brothers then got into Scrambling ( now called Motocross). Colin had an old Dormobile van which transported 3 bikes and me in the back. My brothers sat in the front. I remember he once rode his Scrambler up our unmade road on winter in the snow and mud. I also remember him spending all day repairing the engine on the van for myself and him to go to a motorcycle race meeting. Unfortunately we never did get there.
Now Canada
I have fond memories of us visiting Colin and Jean in the 1980s where he got us into motorhoming at your national parks with him to the great outdoors camping and canoeing. He also taught us the importance of storing dry food for the campfire.
My wife and I also fond memories of other visits to Canada with Colin and family.
