Frederick George Elfner “Fred” passed peacefully surrounded by family at home after a long battle with multiple health issues on August 22, 2024 in his 63rd year.
Fred will forever be missed by his loving wife Marie (nee Funke). Devoted Father of Jennifer (Jason) and Jeff (Shannon). Very proud Grandfather of Landon, Livia, Laina, Javyion, Aliyah, Ian, Emma and Chloe. Survived by his Mother Jeannine and predeceased by his father Ray. Brother of Charlie (Rita), Bob (Rosie) and Carole (Ken). Brother-in-law to Nancy (Garnet), Pat (Dave), Helen (Barry), Jim (Laura), Ralph, Midge (Neil) and Kathy (Dan). Fred will be dearly missed by many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews.
Fred grew up in Rainham Center, married his high school sweetheart and worked as a welder at Dofasco/Arcelor Mittal for 39yrs before retiring in 2018. Over the years Fred was avidly involved in local minor and junior hockey playing, coaching and managing. He enjoyed golfing and even dabbled in baseball and umpiring. He was a Cayuga Kinsmen and Haldimand County Fire Fighter for over 15 years. A die-hard Leafs fan especially when they had a win to harass his Ottawa or Montreal loving friends. He also enjoyed being co-host with Marie to many family and friend functions, a helping hand to all but his favorite was being Marie’s technical support for her many yard displays.
Special thanks to all the Physicians and Nurses at St. Joeseph’s Healthcare Hamilton especially the ER/Urgent Care staff and the compassionate nursing staff from CBI allowing Fred to be home with his family.
Friends are invited to join the family for a celebration of Fred’s life from 4:00pm to 7:00pm Thursday August 29th at the Cayuga Kinsmen Hall, 15 Thorburn St. South in Cayuga. In remembrance of Fred, any charitable donations may be made in his name to St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton- Emergency Department Renovation ( stjoesfoundation.ca).
