John is survived by his loving wife Violet, and children Tom (Leslie), John (Renata), Pauline, Suzan (Jack) and Mark (Corinne). Fondly remembered by grandchildren Evan, Alex, Natasha, John, Mhari, Grace, Tyler, and Adam. Missed by sisters Katie (Pero), Ivanka (Vendel), Marica and Anka (Pavo), sister-in-law Lillian, Elaine (Robert), Nancy, and Jacquie Procope, as well as many nephews and nieces. Predeceased by his parents Tomo and Doroteja, sister Draga Mlinaric, and brother in-laws Steve Mlinaric, Pero Papac, Pavo Bilic, and Frank Hondula.
John’s butcher shop, JC Sausage & Meats, was a local fixture in Lowbanks for many years. Very much a family business, countless friends and customers will remember coming into “The Shop” to pick up some meat and revel in John’s boisterous personality and share a laugh.
The very definition of gregarious with an outgoing personality, John loved social events and would welcome everyone with twinkling eyes and a big bear hug. He had a special connection to children and always made time to make them feel noticed and loved – and made sure to give them a nickname. John supported local charities and sports teams, and was a fixture in the local Croatian community.
John was a fighter throughout his illness and remained stoic through a long and difficult journey. This was made easier by devoted family and friends, and many dedicated healthcare professionals. Special appreciation to Dr. Blake and the caring teams at Haldimand War Memorial Hospital, Dunnville.
Visitation and funeral prayers at J.W. Hart Funeral Home on Saturday, September 25, 2021, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm followed by cremation and a private family interment. Violet and Family,
So many wonderful, warm memories from childhood and beyond…. Wrapping our beef with the family and Violet…amazed at how John would carry huge portions of beef over his shoulder. Going into the store to purchase meat with mom or dad and always a little piece of that oohhhh so good kielbasa slipped over the counter, platters and platters of cold cuts at Ernie and Barb’s barn dance to celebrate the new barn, and always ..even at our last visit, those twinkling blue eyes and smile.
Our deepest condolences to each and all of you.
Earth’s loss is Heaven’s gain
