I must admit this has taken me aback l have been reflecting for the last couple of hours and have surprised myself with the things I remember about you. It has been so long but I can see your eyes when you smile. I can hear your laugh. I can hear your deep soft voice. I can hear your music in the Hub. I can hear your music in Dunnville. I can see the patients you have for all of us. I can see the love you have for all the Pattersons. I can see the love you have for Laurie. I can only imagine seeing the love you shared with your sons and your grand babies. Well done sir. Well done. Still a little upset you got us banned from the secret trout pond on Sulfur Springs Road for getting caught skinny dipping but hey, that’s water under the bathtub 🛀 Hahaha.

Very sorry for your family’s loss ..although I am guilty of letting time slip away and not keeping in touch, I have very often thought of the good times playing and having Dave holding down the bottom end and adding so much to the vocals. Will never forget his words of encouragement and his smile. We still have tunes Dave brought to us on our set list and and are always reminded of the wonderful BIG DAVE
Laurie we are saddened to hear of Dave’s passing. You & your family are in our thoughts & prayers.
Our heartfelt condolences for your loss from Ron, Mary and Joel Bouliane.
My heart goes out to you, Laurie and family. While I’ve not crossed paths much with you and Dave in the last bunch of years, our families spent a lot of time together when I was a kid. I remember coming to the old house in Dunnville, with the bales of hay piled around outside to keep out the cold…and it was always warm and inviting on the inside. While maybe too young to understand how or why, I just knew you and Dave were good people, and I always enjoyed the visits.
As I got older and was able to participate in the jams, I remember clearly Dave being a part of that, with his natural wood finished bass and his big heart. He was always so gracious, and hilariously self deprecating….I always felt like a valued friend around him, even if our ages were a ‘few’ years apart. He introduced me to ‘Roll in my sweet baby’s arms’ and ‘Rocky Top’. (what is this ‘bluegrass’ music of which you speak???)
I recall a night, years later, when Dave and I happened to be booked the same night at a coffee house at AngelCave Studio. Dave played ‘Field Behind the Plow’ and he immersed himself in it, a somewhat fragile but passionate performance…how else would it be in my mind all these years later? And of course, he blew it off afterwards and complimented my performance.
I’m saddened to hear we no longer have his physical presence, but I’m happy his spirit lives on in you and your family, and all around us. He was a fine human and will be remembered fondly.
Love to you guys!
David
We (Wendy and I) are so very sorry to hear of Dave’s passing.
Dave has been a long time friend for over 70 years. As we were growing up we were able to play together as we lived on the same side of the highway – now Wilson St in Ancaster.
We spent countless hours playing at our homes, riding bicycles and in the now Dundas Valley Conservation Area chasing whatever and building dams on the creek.
While Dave tried hard to get me to learn how to ride a motorcycle it just wasn’t in the cards. We so often chuckled about that and his continued joy in riding.
His love of family and music were the pillars of his life.
We lost touch for many years as I had moved away but renewed our friendship so easily on my return to southern Ontario.
Our sympathies are extended to Laurie and the family.
Rest well Old Friend – you earned and deserve the rest.
My heart and prayers go out to you Laurie, Chris and Mike in the loss of your forever life partner, friend and father. Thankfully, you have the strength and love of family and friends to support you in this very difficult time. Take comfort in knowing how much you are all loved, and how much Dave was loved. I will forever miss our lunches together Laurie, where we all laughed and shared our memories of times passed. He was truly a special man, husband, father, grandfather and friend.
We are so sorry to hear of Dave’s passing. Sending our condolences to Laurie and family.
Ralph and Marilyn Disher

Bob& Luci
Thinking of you and yours.
We have truly been so blessed to have you both as our neighbours for the last 14 years♡ Our fence chats with Dave will be missed! Always some quick wit to give us a chuckle! One of my favourite things was to go outside when the band would gather at the house so I could hear them practice! I’d stay out a little longer and it always put a smile on my face!
Rest easy Dave and keep the music alive♡
Hugs,
Steve, Lyndsay, Lane & Sy
Laurie and Family,
Lynda and I are so very sorry to learn of Dave’s passing. More than 60 years ago Dave and I, with Gary Depew and others, attended Ancaster High School. We lost touch for many years but over the past few years it was so enjoyable to renew acquaintances and to share our love for motorcycles and riding.
Our group lunches in Dunnville with the Austins and other friends were so very enjoyable, being together after so many years and still so comfortable with each other’s company.
We extend our sincere condolences,
Dennis and Lynda Norsworthy
Sorry for your loss
