
Dale Edward Backus
1934 to 2024
Dale Backus passed away peacefully with his wife by his side, at Haldimand War Memorial Hospital, Dunnville on Tuesday August 6, 2024, at the age of 89 years. He will be forever missed by his loving wife, Jeannette Backus of 63 years. A devoted father of sons, Todd (Lisa) and Kevin (Shannon), and grandfather of, Mackenize, Avery, Cohen, Seth, and Beckett. Survived by sister, Beryl (Don) Vickers. Predeceased by his parents, Tom and Greta Backus, brothers Jim (Elsie) and Gary Backus and sister Marylynn (Wayne) Swarts.
Dale grew up in Port Maitland where he entered into commercial fishing with his Uncle Mait McKeown. He was a long-time employee of IMC, and then worked at Haldimand War Memorial Hospital until his retirement. Dale loved living at the lake and travelling with his wife and friends. He treasured spending time with his family, playing cards with his bridge group, and cheering on his grandchildren and watching them grow. A softspoken, kind, witty and thoughtful man, Dale will be missed immeasurably by his loving family and friends.
Friends are invited to join the family for a Celebration of Dale’s life, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm Sunday August 25th at Lowbanks Community Centre, 2633 North Shore Drive.

Dale was soft-spoken and kind and had a wonderful dry humour. I enjoyed his company as much as I enjoyed working with his lovely wife, Jeannette.
