With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Elisabeth Qunera Maria Roddy (Tuin) on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at the age of 92.
Born in Holland on September 21, 1932, Elisabeth traveled from Heemskerk with her parents and seven siblings, immigrating to Canada at the age of 17 aboard the Volendam, arriving in Nova Scotia to begin a new chapter in life. A woman of strength and determination, she built a beautiful life in her new country and, in 1961, married the love of her life, Thomas Roddy. Together, they raised three wonderful daughters: Kelly, Caroline, and Robin, who were the light of her life.
Elisabeth was a devout Catholic, finding strength in her faith throughout life’s joys and challenges. She worked tirelessly to provide for her family, always demonstrating grace and perseverance. She was a woman of impeccable style, never without a touch of lipstick or a fresh coat of polish on her nails, even as she bravely faced her battle with dementia.
A loving and devoted grandmother, Elisabeth adored her four grandchildren, Krystian, Danielle, Dylan, and Michael. She shared her love through warm embraces, cherished traditions, and her famous lemon meringue pie, which will forever remain a sweet memory for those lucky enough to have enjoyed it.
Elisabeth’s legacy is one of love, faith, and resilience. Though dementia may have taken parts of her memory, it never took her spirit, her love of a fresh bouquet of flowers from her special guy,or her beautiful singing voice. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her kindness, strength, and elegance will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated to honor Elisabeth’s life at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, Dunnville on Wednesday March 12th at 11:00 am. A Reception will follow.

This Lady was in my life for a long time. She always had a smile .I took care of this Lady through my job with St Elizabeth. she became family to me I enjoyed sitting on the porch playing her favorite music ,listening to her stories doing her nails doing g.her hair so she could feel like Betty …Dementia took away a lot.but she was a trooper and made it work..Betty I’m going to miss all the great times we had the pizza the ice cream bars that Tom spoiled is with and all the laughs. Rest in peace Betty I will treasure all the memories

Aunt Betty will be sadly missed, but she is at peace now. May she be keeping a watchful vigilance on the family, along with Oma & Opa and Uncle Ben and Uncle John, until you are all together again.
My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the Roddy family. I only met Mrs. Roddy a few years ago. I enjoyed hearing stories about her childhood and journey to Canada.
